Geography 2nd year student’s field Excursion to Eastern Uganda

On 16th/10/2019 a group of Second year Geography students traveled to Eastern Uganda for a fieldwork excursion. During this fieldwork excursion, students went to Bududa and Manafwa for structural morphological analysis, geo-hazard assessment, drainage basin characterization, land use and cover analysis etc. They alsowent to Teso region and Kapchorwa for landscape and land use analysis, hillslope hydrological analysis among others . We are also planning to visit some three secondary schools in the region for an interface with students to promote our BGS and Bsc Met programmes. Five staff members ware involved in this exercise including Dr.Nseka Denis, Dr. Wasswa Hannington, Dr. Nadhomi Daniel, Mr Hosea Opedes and the Head Assoc Prof.Frank Mugagga, who later joined the group.

The AFRICA CLIMATE RISK CONFERENCE that took place at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in Addis Ababa Ethiopia on the 7  – 9 OCTOBER 2019 with a them of “ Dismantling barriers to urgent climate adaption action in Africa”. Was an open platform for sharing latest African climate research among researchers policy makers, practitioners and development patterns. The conference brought together academicians, meteorology agencies,researchers, NGOs, government agencies and development patterns to share knowledge on climate services in Africa.

The Department of Geography, Geo-Informatics and Climatic Sciences together with the College of Computing & Information Sciences hosted Professor Debarchana Ghosh from the Department of Geography, University of Connecticut USA. She is here on a collaborative program between the Department and the University of Connecticut USA. Professor Debarchana gave a presentation during a research seminar on the theme:”DRUG USE AND HIV/AIDS TREATMENT CASCADES, OVERLAPS AND INTERSECTIONS. The seminar took place Friday 6th September, 2019 between 12pm to 1pm at the College of Computing and information sciences (COCIS) Conference Hall (Block A 4th floor).

Orientation Of The 1st Years 2019

The Department of Geography, Geo-Informatics and Climatic Sciences conducted its orientation for the 1st year students for the academic year of 2019/2020. Held on the 09/08/2019 in lecture theater 1 located at the Meteorology-Unit (FCIT Building) the function included students admitted on the Bachelor of Science in Meteorology, Bachelor of Geographical Sciences and those in education with Geography as a subject, and was presided over by the Chair, Assoc prof. Frank Mugagga.  The MC Dr. Denis Nseka  and the Patron of one of the students Governing body in the department welcomed the students and thanked them for choosing the department. Read more
