About MUGS

Founded in the 1960s as a scientific body, the University Geography Society unites undergraduate students passionate about conserving nature and promoting sustainable environmental practices. Registered with the Students Guild under the Department of Geography, Geoinformatics and Climatic Sciences. Our society serves as a vibrant hub for those interested in geography and its intersection with ecological stewardship.

Our Mission

Our mission is to foster a community of young professional geographers dedicated to understanding and protecting our planet. We aim to engage students in meaningful initiatives that promote the sustainable use of natural resources across generations. Through education, advocacy, and collaboration, we strive to make a positive impact on our environment.

Collaborations and Partnerships
Makerere University Geography Society actively collaborates with the Uganda Geographical Association (UGA), a body of geography professionals based at Makerere University. Currently, the society is developing a structural framework to revive the Uganda Geographical Society (UGS), to unite students in geography and geography related courses across all levels of education in the country. We are committed to building strategic partnerships with student organizations, professional and academic associations, and international entities to amplify our efforts in environmental conservation.
